Gonadorelin

GnRH · Luteinising Hormone-Releasing Hormone · LHRH

Native GnRH decapeptide that preserves testicular function and endogenous testosterone production during or after exogenous hormone use.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Gonadorelin is synthetic native GnRH - a decapeptide secreted in pulses by the hypothalamus to stimulate LH and FSH release from the pituitary. In clinical use, pulsatile administration mimics endogenous GnRH rhythms to stimulate testicular function. Continuous (non-pulsatile) administration causes receptor downregulation and testosterone suppression - the opposite effect. Research applications centre on preserving spermatogenesis and testicular volume during testosterone therapy, restoring HPG axis function post-androgen use, and reproductive endocrinology research in hypogonadal males.

RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

  • Testicular function preservation during androgen therapy
  • HPG axis restoration research
  • Spermatogenesis support models
  • Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism research
  • Pulsatile GnRH receptor pharmacology

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS

Testicular Volume Preservation

2006

Pulsatile gonadorelin during TRT prevented the testicular atrophy seen with exogenous testosterone alone, maintaining Sertoli cell function and spermatogenesis in most subjects.
